You are probably here because of the email I sent to you to tell you to come here. LOL.
So here is the announcement, not quite as juicy as you thought. LOL. But give this girl some credit for creating the suspense. 😆
I hope you are all well and in the best of Imaan and health.
Have you ever wondered why we always pray for someone’s imaan and health in the same sentence? Here is what I personally have discovered:
They are most often correlated ( unavoidable health complications excluded).
Not to dismiss the fact that there are certain circumstances where the health deteriorates but the imaan gets stronger. But like I said, exceptions to unavoidable health complications, mental health included. (I see you, boo.)
So why the change in times?
If you personally know me, I am all about facts, research and experience. I grip onto facts like a life jacket thrown to a drowning sailor. Because that is just how my brain is wired. And we are all wired differently.
(Just a side tidbit, some people are wired to act spontaneously, without prior research, without gathering facts. Based on a personality test I took, I cannot be friends with these people because their spontaneity triggers my anxiety. So, don’t be offended if I ghosted you okay? LOL. )
When I decided to send the letters and upload the videos on the prior designated day ( emails and new videos on Thursdays), it was all based on facts and research I had done.
“When is the best time to send out email / newsletters?”
While the evidence is inconclusive for videos because it mostly mentioned that it doesn’t matter as long as you upload consistently (you can imagine how I reacted to this because I WANTED FACTS DARNNIT.), but for sending out emails, there were strong evidence that emails are best sent on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
And so because I like facts, I decided to go with this.
However, as months go by, I realise that this was not possible (as evident from the missing emails for weeks and months, and absent of new content on my youtube channel).
Because it doesn’t take into account of MY schedule. While I am a Stay At Home Mother, my schedule evolves around my children’s because I am their desginated driver, instructor, educator, and everything else, every.single.day.
We have activites going on afterschool every single day of the week.
Come Thursday I would be swearing that I have nothing prepared or I have no new content to release. The guilt gnaws as me throughout the whole week until the next Thursday comes. A vicious cycle.
It affected my mental health, my physical health and my focus with my ibadaah.
I recently went back to Brunei to visit my mother for 10 days (without the kiddos! pure bliss!) and while I was there, I had ample time to reflect, analyse and re-organise myself, my thoughts and my system.
Thursday is no longer a viable day to release content, it just wasn’t working to my advantage. As much as I love and live to serve all of you in the best possible way I can, to provide beneficial content and insights, I just couldn’t cope with the mental load any more on top of my already mental mom-load.
I had to take care of me first before anyone else. I got caught up in the hype of wanting to make this year THE year. I wanted to increase YouTube subscibers, I wanted to engage more with my supporters, I wanted to release more workshops, I wanted to increase my Instagram followers.
I want, I want, I want.
I had FOMO. I wanted to be in with the other bloggers who were succeeding with all their social media accounts. I wanted to be like them.
Because I kept chasing the wants, I ignored my needs.
So I decided, screw the facts, let me just do this in a way that it will bring peace to my overall being.
I have the most time on weekends and in Oman (where I am currently based as of the moment this piece was written)the weekend is on Friday-Saturday.
(Okay maybe this isn’t based on just reflection and realisation but abit of statistics was involved. Based on my email open analysis, my emails are most read on Fridays too, ekeke.)
The argument for changing releasing content days are as below:
Friday is the weekend and I have more free time on weekends
Based on my statistic, emails are most opened on Fridays
With reference to no 1, more free time = more time to edit videos rather than hastily editing them and upload mediocre edited vlogs.
Your honour, the jury is now adjourned.
After all that gibbery-gobbery, that is what I wanted to say. LOL.
But also, this realisation.
YOU BELONG TO YOU.
As much as you live to serve and do good, you cannot do that when you don’t take care of yourself. In the world of invasive social media presence, it is even more important that you seclude yourself and get in-tune to what your soul needs. And it needs peace, tranquility and a sound mind, which is so hard to achieve these days with our face stuck to our smartphones for hours on end daily.
Listen to your mind and body, recognise the subtle hints it is sending you that it needs a break. If your mind is not present when doing a task, you need to stop and ask yourself why. What is bothering your mind that it cannot concentrate at the present moment.
And as much as I love all of you and as much as I appreciate all your support and encouragement and love, I need to step back and do something that will take care of me first. I want you to know that if you feel this way and if you feel you’re being selfish, I want you to know that it is not.
It is not selfish to care for yourself.
When you are good to yourself, you can serve others better. You cannot pour from an empty cup.
So this move is me refilling my cup from Sunday to Thursday so I can pour out soulful content on Fridays and Saturdays.
You do what is good for you, boo.
You do what fits your schedule. The facts are great but sometimes you gotta tweak it to meet your standards and schedule.
You belong to you.
Thank you everyone, for all your support throughout these years. I have made some really good friends off my blog, social media and emails, some are keepers for life. I love you all!
I pray that you will be able to find peace and tranquility in whatever dreams you wish to pursue. Whatever makes you feel happy and content, just do it. Bismillah. With Allah’s blessings.
With that, I end this post. Take care everyone!
